Delivery Time

When should I order my penumbra product so it arrives by a specific date?
In this article, we’ll help you determine the latest order date to ensure it arrives in time for a special occasion.

To understand this, let’s take a look at how our delivery time is calculated. Part of it consists of the production time for our items, while the other part is the shipping time.

Production Time

We handcraft everything in our workshop in Austria, so the production phase begins after we receive your order. Depending on the order date, this process takes about 2-3 weeks. If you’d like to learn more about our workflow, feel free to read “A week in the penumbra workshop”, where we take you on a tour of our daily routines.

If things need to go faster, we also have a small selection of ready-to-ship pieces in stock for you. In this case, the “production time” is reduced to 2-3 business days, as your order only needs to be packed after payment is received. To avoid disrupting our regular workflow too much, we pack orders twice a week, which is why there is a processing time of 2-3 business days.

Shipping Time

Shipping times for packages vary by region, so we’ve created a table outlining the expected shipping times for you:

Austria: 2-3 business days
Germany: 3-5 business days
Rest of the EU: 3-7 business days
outside of the EU: 2-3 weeks*

*This information is based solely on our experiences. Unfortunately, customs can sometimes cause longer waiting times, and we have no control over the speed of the customs clearance process.

When things need to move faster: Express Shipping

If you’re in a hurry, you can also opt for express shipping. However, please keep in mind that this only affects the shipping time, not the production time. Especially within Austria, and sometimes for deliveries within the EU, there is little of a difference between standard shipping and express shipping, as the production time is usually longer than the shipping time.

For deliveries outside the EU, it can make sense to choose express shipping, as the package is also prioritized when going through customs and will reach its destination much faster.

Here are the expected shipping times with express shipping:

Austria: 1-2 business days
EU: 2-3 business days
outside of the EU: 3-5 business days

Please note that all shipping time estimates are based on our experiences. We cannot guarantee that these will be met, as once a package leaves our workshop, we no longer have control of what happens with it.

So when should I place my order?

We’ve put together a table showing the recommended order deadlines based on our experience to help ensure you receive your package on time:

EU

Standard shipping: 4 weeks before the event
Express shipping: 4 weeks before the event
Ready to ship items: 2 weeks before the event
Ready to ship items  + express shipping: 1 week before the event

Non-EU

Standard shipping: 6 weeks before the event
Express shipping: 4 weeks before the event
Ready to ship items: 4 weeks before the event
Ready to ship items + express shipping: 2 weeks before the event

Please note: Especially around special occasions like Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Christmas, shipping providers often experience high demand, which can lead to longer shipping times. To be safe, consider adding an extra week to your timeline.

Last but not least:

We always strive to get your packages to you as quickly as possible, and often, we deliver much faster than declared. However, we can’t guarantee this, so it’s best to plan ahead if you want to give someone a penumbra gift or need something for a specific event yourself.

If you need help determining whether we can meet a specific delivery date, feel free to contact us via email. Provide the item and the date you need it by, and we’ll assess whether it’s doable.

With all our best,
Lena and the penumbra team!
